The Uvalde school police department has been suspended, and Texas state troopers will instead provide coverage to the school district.

The Uvalde school board called a special meeting for Wednesday, Aug. 24, to consider firing Pete Arredondo as school district police chief.

Uvalde school police chief Pete Arredondo was elected to the City Council on May 7 but will not be sworn in as planned Tuesday, the mayor announced.
